Healing in Shaw

By Emma Klues | No Comments

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of a resident who was shot last night in Shaw. The loss of a human life, no matter the circumstance, leaves us all with heavy hearts. A Peace Vigil and a Prayer Vigil are scheduled for tonight, October 9th, to begin the process of healing. More information on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Shaw.Saint.Louis.

There are large-scale, long-term issues at hand. While incidents like this could happen anywhere, we recognize that it happened here this week. Like most neighborhoods, we are not without our issues, but our dedicated community will continue to invest in working together toward a safe and vibrant Shaw. In response to the events in Ferguson, SNIA had scheduled several discussions to help Shaw residents grapple with the effects of fractured communities, one of which occurred last week. Now we must heal ourselves.

Full information on what occurred last night will take time and we encourage everyone to be patient and peaceful through a thorough investigation. This is a complicated and tragic situation that will not be easily resolved.

The Shaw Neighborhood Improvement Association (SNIA) has been working proudly since 1975 to improve the quality of life for Shaw residents and today is no different. Shaw residents are fiercely dedicated to and passionate about our neighborhood. To learn what we are doing to stay united, you may contact us at email@shawstlouis.org or check us out online (www.shawstlouis.org), on Facebook (www.facebook.com/shaw.saint.louis) or on Twitter (www.twitter.com/Shaw_STL, use hashtag #Shaw).

Thanks to all of our community’s residents, churches, businesses and officials for your continued help in making Shaw a great place to live.
