Shaw Neighborhood Improvement Association
The Shaw Neighborhood Improvement Association (SNIA) is a non-profit organization which was incorporated in 1975. The corporation is managed by an executive committee and governed by the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is comprised of elected representatives of each block in the Shaw Neighborhood - this large network of block captains ensures that every voice is heard and every resident is represented. The Board of Directors meet every other month at the Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy (Tower Grove Ave. at Cleveland).
The SNIA serves the residents of the Shaw neighborhood by providing information, facilitating discussion, and acting on solutions. General meetings provide opportunities to personally interact with the Alderman, the 3rd District Police, the Neighborhood Stabilization Officer, SNIA Officers, as well as to meet and greet other residents of the community. The Chairs of each SNIA committee provide updates and are available to answer any questions pertaining to their activities. The program topics address current issues that are relevant to Shaw Neighborhood and St. Louis City. The general membership meetings are held quarterly at St. Margaret of Scotland Church basement (39th and Flad).
There are many opportunities to participate in the SNIA. Committees are organized to address the specific concerns of our residents, to provide the financial means for the association, or to work for the general betterment of our community. The bylaws of the SNIA can be found in the Shaw Newsletters section of this website.
